Nurse Julia was a Barbie based on a character played by Diahann Carroll, a single mom and a nurse, truly ground breaking at the time. Very forward thinking for Mattell really.
Her hair was originally brown but I guess it fades over time into this kickass red color and apparently one of this Julia's owners gave her this punk hair-do, which is why I fell in love with her and asked her to model for me today.
Social distancing is making it tough to have real models so I'm trying to make it work. It's also hard to explain to a delivery person, "pick out a good piece of fruit for painting."
So I'll be painting vintage toys and stuff from around the studio for a while.
